Hospice Care
Part of our mission is caring for people in the communities we serve, at all stages of life. We offer comprehensive end-of-life hospice care to patients and their families throughout King, Kitsap and Pierce counties.
What is hospice care?
Hospice care is medical care and support services to provide comfort for people with a terminal illness. The experienced hospice team at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health offers a complete range of services from nursing care to physical therapy to home medical equipment.
Our goals are to control pain and other symptoms and to support quality of life. Learn more about our residential hospice services and the inpatient care we provide at Franciscan Hospice House.
When is it time for hospice?
Many patients start thinking about hospice in the last six months of an illness. But if you or a loved one has been diagnosed with a potentially life-threatening illness, it’s not too early to consider your options and learn about what signs and symptoms may signal it’s time to think about hospice. When medical treatment to cure a serious illness is no longer beneficial, hospice care offers the best possible comfort and support during the next stages.
We coordinate your care with you, your family and your care team, supporting your choices while you remain independent. The sooner you call on Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, the sooner we can help you prepare for important decisions and life changes.
Our dedicated team for compassionate care
Our approach to hospice care is a coordinated team of providers and specialists — working with you, your family and your primary care physician. From hospice admission through the grieving process, we meet your family’s needs in a very personalized way.
