Oncology team
An oncologist is a provider who specializes in cancer treatment. Often, a team of oncologists will work together on your case. Each brings an area of expertise, and together they will design a treatment plan.
Surgical oncologist
Focuses on removing tumors and cancerous tissue through surgery. At Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Cancer Care, many of our surgeons are dedicated to specific types of cancer, offering a higher level of expertise and training.
Medical oncologist
Manages your overall treatment plan and chemotherapy while collaborating with other team members to provide streamlined care.

Nurse navigators
Navigators help coordinate care. They act as a resource and central point of contact for you and your family and the health care team. They may include nurse navigators and nurse practitioner navigators.
Clinical support team
Other specialists are critical to your cancer care and recovery.
Pathologist
Examines tissue and organ samples to diagnose disease; most patients don’t deal with pathologists directly, but they play an important role in your treatment
Genetic specialist
Conducts testing
Nutritionist (dietician)
Recommends dietary changes to help you heal and cope with side effects of treatment
Physical or occupational therapist
Assists you in regaining strength and independence following your cancer treatment
